Yo this is Asylix here back and ready to tell you what’s going down. As a starting post to get me going again I’m doing a review. So show of hands here, how many people here don’t like the feeling of running a chainsaw through your enemy? If you raised your hand LEAVE if you didn’t, welcome to the next generation. Gears of War 3, boy oh boy what to say, the smell of blood and gun smoke mixed with the curdled screams of your enemy’s as your blow his head away with a sniper rifle. The feel of that bullet jamming in perfectly and giving you that extra boost as you take aim and repeat. The game is amazing but it has a lot to cover so let’s go with the bullet points, Weapons, maps, Campaign, and of course Mulitplayer.

For starters we have the campaign which is, by far, the BEST campaign of the series. The story is based shortly after the second game and the story follows a crazy line that marcus’ father is still alive and you spend the entirety of the game trying to find him. A new enemy emerges called the lambent which are locusts that have been severely infected by Emulsion poisoning. A couple of the tougher ones are the new Gunker and of course the Lambent berserker who’s special power is that it’s only weakness in its armor is a 1x1 hole in its chest which she rarely has opened. The campaign is wonderful but there are some things that I don’t like, but I won’t get into those because no one likes a spoiler.

Next we have the weapons, the wonderful gory weapons. For starters likes go straight to the newest and most known of the new weapons, the retro lancer. The retro lancer is basically a light machine gun version of a regular lancer with one exception, a bayonet. Imagine, if you will, screaming at the top of your lungs as you sprint through the battlefield, bullets whizzing past your head, explosions all around you. A locust runs out from behind cover to shotgun you and you take aim, running straight at him, and before he realizes what ‘s going on you slam your blade through his stomach, lift him into the air, and throw him down like last week’s garbage on garbage day. The retro lancer is a nice weapon at close range, but if you get more then about 20 feet away, the gun is basically useless unless you single shot it which does nothing because your enemy will just duck behind cover and yell sweet hello’s from the safety as he actives all his guns and owns your face with a regular lancer.

Another new gun that is instantly available is the Sawed off. The sawed off is a double barrel that fires both shots at once automatically and has about a 30 second reload time, making it a last ditch effort weapon, because if you miss, you die. The gun only kills at melee distant which means your only hope is to bounce around until your behind him then blast his back open, but remember, that reload is a real bitch. Like I said it’s pro’s are the fact that it’s a guaranteed one hit kill as long as your within melee range. Unfortunately it becomes a pass weapon because of that darn reload speed.

Last but not least we have a new personal favorite of mine, the one shot. The one shot is a respawn weapon on most maps with any kind of open space on it. Basically you get behind cover, pop out, wait for the tone to go solid, get your enemy within the diamond type thing it has on the scope, and pull the trigger. Boom, one down 2 more shots to go. That’s it, that simple, an instajib weapon. The goo d news is people don’t seem to realize yet that you have to still be aiming at the guy so you can get away with being shot at with it as long as you keep rolling. The bad thing about it is that it puts a big red line for everyone to see as you aim down site. That essentially makes it so your enemy has to be facing the opposite direction in order to kill them or they will wait until the line stops blinking and roll the hell away, and you can’t just sit there and hold the trigger either because after 30 seconds of full charge (33 seconds after scoping in) the thing fucking explodes, and will almost kill you, so be cautious and listen to the weapon, when it starts to overheat the tone will change and start getting higher.

Next we have new maps. Most of the maps are generic type maps so I’ll just pinpoint the most popular maps. First we have ThrashBall, which I’m sure you know what that means, WHOOOOO! Thrashball is the arena that Cole played in while he was a thrashball player, of course it’s a bit thrashed up as it was invaded by lambent and used as a home for stranded. The keypoints to this map are the VIP booth and the tunnel where they keep the incendiary grenades. An easy way to tell where to go is look across the map to the spawn, if you don’t see any enemy’s running towards one of the two, go to the empty one. If you get the incendiaries grab them and run straight across to the VIP both, use your grenades to flush the enemy’s out of the entrance then run in with a shotgun. If there’s no one on the side that you wanna go up, then start going up the staircase but stay to the left side or they can see you, when you get half way up just whip a nade up there and roll in with your shotgun out.

Okay one more map I wanna showcase. My personal favorite map and I think a lot of people agree with me. Mercy is a medium sized map with a lot of great hotspots. The first thing is directly outside of the spawn to the left. There’s a little walkway in the side of the wall and you can pick up Ink grenades there. Grab them and run into the church directly around the corner, plant one on the entrance on your side then throw the other one into the other entrance. Run up to the alter and grab the digger that’s waiting for you there. Wait to see a flash of squishy flesh, launch it, and wait for the kills to happen. Two people always make the mistake of running into their right away, and they will both be blown up in the tight quarters of the entrance. Now you have two shots left, repeat until your out of ammo and run out your entrance again, leave your nade because eventually they will switch spawns unless your playing warzone.

Since I mentioned it, let’s get to our last topic, Multiplayer. There are five game modes in versus. Team Deathmatch, Warzone which is one life play tell their all dead style, King of the hill which is basically domination for you CoD Players, Capture the leader which is where theirs a leader on both teams and the goal is to hold the enemy lead for 25 seconds while keeping your leader safe, and Wingman, which is 2v2v2v2. Multiplayer is toned down a bit as they nerfed almost everything and basically turned it into a 3rd person Call of duty with chainsaws. People run around a lot, there’s a lot of rushing and it doesn’t work too well for your team or theirs, so just keep to having a team in party chat and remember tactics, call out enemy locations and whether certain weapons are back up. Lancer’s are your best friend in multiplayer, just keep the fire going and send someone with a shotgun, eventually they’ll either pop up to try to take out your shotgunner or they’ll get scared and run away, which is where you run up their and start unloading a clip into his ass as he retreats.

We’ll that’s all for my review, I showed you some tactics, explained a few new maps, talked about the guns, and gave you something to do for about 20 minutes as you read this long freaking thing. Be sure to check in often for news and reviews and be sure to stay active in the forums. My next review will most likely be Modern Warfare 3 so look for that shortly after the release. Have a nice day and stay classy gamers!
